Biba Fall 2007 Collection

Taking the reins of an iconic house is rarely an easy feat, and Bella Freud has faced a harder challenge than most.

Her debut collection last season was underwhelming, while high price points have been an issue and, for the past six months, many other brands have aped such Biba staples as jersey dresses and platforms.

Freud showed her second effort on Tuesday night, a solid if not ground-breaking collection of wares that echoed old-school Biba, albeit with a twist. There were Mod-ish black pantsuits trimmed with patent leather piping, the classic arabesque prints and some fun fur pieces, including an olive-and-black intarsia mink jacket.

Freud noted before the show that she wanted the lineup to have a glamorous element, but that the collection would always be a bit out of left field. That mission was accomplished, at the very least — now about those prices….
